Guide / Food compatibility

Check the food
before the features.

Write down your food type, measure your kibble and compare the exact model’s instructions. “Automatic feeder” is not a food-compatibility specification.

Before you shortlist

A food compatibility check you can complete before buying

Food fit comes before app features. A well-connected feeder that cannot reliably handle the intended food is the wrong shortlist entry.

After setup, follow the manual and check delivered meals while you are present before relying on a schedule. We have not performed dispensing accuracy or jam tests on these products.

1. Identify the food

Record dry, wet or mixed food, shape and approximate dimensions. A brand name alone is insufficient because recipes can differ.

2. Read the exact model limit

Use the manufacturer’s accepted food type and size range. If no range is provided, ask for confirmation rather than infer it from hopper volume.

3. Check how portions are defined

A machine portion can be a mechanism setting rather than a universal weight. Follow the product’s calibration instructions for your actual food.

4. Reject a mismatched design

Do not blend, moisten or alter food just to make an unsupported hopper work. Choose a suitable mechanism and verify storage requirements.

Use limits as gates, not scores

If a known size or food-type limit fails, remove that reference from your shortlist. If the information is missing, mark it for confirmation. Extra features do not compensate for an unresolved food requirement.

Verify portions with your own food

After setup, observe multiple scheduled dispensings while present and measure the food produced. A volume setting is not a universal weight for every kibble. Use your pet’s established feeding plan when translating measurements into a schedule; this guide does not prescribe a ration.

Keep model boundaries intact

Manufacturer pages distinguish food ranges and hardware revisions. Read the model reference pages for the documented checks, then confirm the exact unit with the seller. Do not copy a nearby model’s specifications into your decision.
